Jake Gets a Blog

Well so much for avoiding articles in my titles.

I have been unhappy lately, more so than the regular hate of my ongoing #DCHateTrain.

This realization came after recent work assignments found me thoroughly unmotivated to produce. However, the post about space history was not only fun to write, I found it reassuring quite a few ideas I had been developing about my life.

One of which, my lack of writing-related projects being done for pleasure. Research, data, spreadsheets, text, all of it.

When I first got to the AHA, the personal filter of how much Jake I was giving them evaporated quickly, and while things are 98% fine on personal levels, I find my say in creative and professional matters to have never fully developed. Part of this comes with the territory. I am a junior staff member and a junior scholar, I get it. I am happy to defer to those who have been around the block once or twice, hell, I want to absorb that experience. The issue is the brick wall I have hit when it comes to expressing my professional side as my personable self. The space piece was the lone anomaly in my six months in DC.

This led to the realization that I need to write. And write I shall. On my terms entirely. I will write about deep things. I will write about the last beer I drank. Doesn’t matter; wrote blog.

I want to make this approachable and enjoying for whoever might read it (as if people would), but I feel like a lot of the fun bits that make me who I am can translate into these postings. Movie references, song lyrics, memes, parenthetical asides, and so on.

So here goes nothing. (Now for gimmicks)
