Zoom Zoom: Miata Jake

Miata really might always be the answer.

I write this one from the recently remodeled Mazda of Orange service department lounge.

I got into Miata’s via the Gran Turismo 3 and 4 video games. The old MX-5s make for some of the best starter cars in the games and that got me excited to own one as an adult. Owning my red 2018 ND has been one of the best experiences. It really does make traveling more fun than just cruising around in some sedan. They cannot keep the mountain roads I want to drive built… Oh Angeles Crest Highway…

I think I am at the end of my service maintenance contract thingy I tacked on when I bought the car. Either way, lots to ponder at the Miata is starting to get some seasoning. Still curious what Mazda plans to do long term, perhaps an NE hybrid generation? Maybe some rotary engine witchcraft? Both of those options sounds like they bring certain long term hassles around performance vs upkeep. Is the ND Miata really as good as it gets? I wouldn’t know as my 6 year old ride doesn’t meet spec anymore.

I do see a ton of Miata’s on the road these days? Does that translate to a higher sales profile? Regionally? who knows… but it is fun to have the light hearted Miata gang solidarity on the road. Remember when Smiles to the Gallon was one of the taglines? 😛 How silly. Lots of different people can be seen driving them too. Couldn’t pin down one exact archetype as a dominant demographic, probably “white dudes” tho.

The dealer’s coffee machine is decent and I always get some double latte drink. They have that old football movie The Replacements on. Why has Keanu been a former OSU quarterback twice? That seems a bit matrixy if you ask me. Lots of stale tropes in this movie so far. California Oranges, Texas Cabbages, We think your team needs a lil prac-ttuce…. Like lettuce I guess…

Ok well there’s some initial Miata ramblings to set the discourse in this direction. So thanks again for Zoom Zooming at JakesHouse!
